Add value or shut up shop

Short but insightful post from Jeff Jarvis about Wikileaks and the future of journalism.  I think his comments about the need for journalists to add value in an age when the distribution costs for information are near zero apply to more than just the media: estate agents, librarians, financial advisers to name a few.

"If you don’t add value, then you’re not needed. And that’s not necessarily bad. When you don’t add value and someone else can perform the task as stenographer or leaker or reporter — and you can link to it — then that means you save resources and money. This means journalists need to look at where they add maximum value."
