Disruptive power of the cloud

This 20 page report from the Deloitte Centre for the Edge group is worth a look.  There's nothing particularly profound in it but I tend to agree with the overall message that the deployment of cloud-based services across enterprises is going to have some serious implications for both IT professionals and entire industries.  Taking day-to-day control of information systems away from internal IT departments through the use of web-based systems that encourage the sharing of information has the potential to reconfigure some key businesses processes.  

"Cloud computing will be far more disruptive than currently anticipated. This creates significant opportunity for new forms of strategic advantage both on the IT Provider side and the “User Enterprise” side, which heightens the need to engage early to build capability and to aggressively pursue the disruptive potential of cloud computing."
